Exterior Basement Foundation Tiling

The process of exterior drain tiling involves excavation of the soil immediately surrounding the foundation wall. The soil is removed down to the footing (usually 6-8 ft. down). a corrugated, slotted (to allow water in) polyethylene pipe in the trench. The drain pipe is laid into the trench with a slight grade of the soil to allow passive draining of the water to discharge at a downhill area that is lower than the drain pipe. Alternatively, a sump well can be installed to pump the water to a suitable location. With the foundation wall exposed, a polyethylene sheet is anchored to the foundation wall to prevent water intrusion and allow water to directed to the drain pipe below.
